To Become An Affiliate Marketer, Do You Need A Website?
For affiliate marketers, has social media make websites obsolete?
No, even though social media sites will likely play a role in your affiliate marketing business, they aren’t a substitute for your own website.
It’s a great idea to use social media sites as a platform to build your following. With millions of people visiting most social media sites daily, you can really get your offers in front of people quickly, easily and cheaply.
BUT…
That doesn’t make them a substitute for your own website.
When you purchase your own domain name and hosting account you essentially own a piece of the internet.
Think of it like this – would you build a new franchise on land that didn’t belong to you?
Of course not. Whoever owns the land can come in and claim your million dollar store any time they want!
It’s a similar concept online. Social media sites don’t belong to you. That business page you created on Facebook belongs to Facebook, not you.
Those Youtube followers that you’ve built up over time don’t subscribe to you, they subscribe to your channel…and you don’t own your channel!
What would you do if Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Pintesrst, etc. changed their terms of service and you were suddenly non-compliant and got de-platformed or demonetized?
It happens more often than you’d think!
What if you woke up one morning and you found that all of a sudden you’re online presence was reduced to zero? All that hard work to build up followers gone, literally overnight.
Let that sink in for a minute.
There’s nothing you can do to stop that scenario, it happens.
BUILD YOUR BUSINESS WITH A SOLID FOUNDATION
So, that is why you need a website – a website is something you own. It’s your own online presence that you control and you don’t have to worry about someone taking it away from you!
That’s the kind of foundation you want to build any online business on- no matter what type of online business you’re running.
Social media is a marketing tool and should be a part of your overall online strategy.
BUT…
Social media sites should only be a supplement – not a substitute for your own online property.
When you have your own website you can make that your base of operations. You can, and should, link it to all your social media accounts.
You can, and should, add multiple optin forms to various pages on your website and build an email list.
When you have your own website, you have a lot of control and a much smaller risk.
OK, I Need A Website, How Do I Get One?
Hopefully I’ve made the case and you see the importance of building your online presence.
Content can come in many forms: articles, videos, graphics, etc. The important thing is that the content is geared to the wants and needs of your website visitors, the people in your niche.
What common questions or problems do people in your niche contend with? Providing helpful answers to common questions from the people in your niche will provide tons of content topics.
This method of using content to attract potential customers to your blog and build a reputation as an expert in your niche is called content marketing.
It’s really cool because they come to you!
Now that you have a better understanding of the difference between a blog and a website, you’re probably wondering how you can get your own.
You have options:
- Hire someone to put one up for you
- Learn how to put up your own blog – plugins, widgets, colors, graphics, etc.
So it really comes down to:
- Investing the time to learn how to do it yourself and save some money but spend more time
- Or, save time and hire someone to do it for you but spend some money
Which option is best for you? That’s something you will have to deceide.
But, remember, time is money.
If you choose to learn all the ins and outs of setting up your own blog, that means it’s going to take longer to reach your goal of actually making money online.
As a professional business owner you’ll need to learn how to delegate and outsources tasks.
Hire experts to do the tasks you don’t know how to do or that you don’t want to do.
This will free up your time to focus on those tasks that only YOU can do!
